Good day partners! What we are going to talk about in this video is about How to know your child’s learning style. Let’s talk about that. Step 1 Let’s find out what the learning styles are. According to studies of psychologies there are four types of learning styles And we can remember this in the acronym VARK Visual Learner Auditory Learner Read and write Learner And Kinesthetic Learner What is a visual learner? This is the kind of student who learns more easily or can easily remember important information through pictures.
Their pictographic memory is strong. They link the information to a picture or visible objects. So it is important that we teach our children using visual aids, videos, or we can draw them with pictures.
What is an Auditory Learner? This is the kind of student who learns more easily through the things he hears. They learn through leactures, storytelling, sounds, and music. They remember things they heard more especially when accompanied by a strange sound or music.
So stories, sounds, and music are also important in teaching our children . We can talk to the child. Or teach a song or poem related to their lesson. What about Read Write Learner? This is the type of student who learns better when reading and writing information.
Experts then thought it was just a visual learner. But there is a more noticeable difference this style than the visual learner. Because this is the kind of student who learns from visual text (letters) and not by pictures.
and instead of drawing a picture they are writing important information. In other words, they learn when someone reads and writes. So in our teaching it is also important that we write descriptions, and labels.
Let us have time to read and write with our children. What about the kinesthetic learner? This is the type of student who learns better through gestures, movement, act, and dance. They are the physically active ones that we sometimes mistake for naughty.
This is the kind of student who learns more through action. They remember an information better if they connect it to a gesture or gestures. So it is also important in our teaching to accompany physical activity such as games and dance.
But just a reminder, Sometimes a student’s learning style is a combination of two or more learning styles. so it is important to carefully observe and assess the child where he or she is learning more.
Step 2 – Use different teaching methods. For example, 1. teaching using pictures or videos 2. teaching using music or storytelling 3. teaching through reading and writing 4. and teaching through play or dancing.
Step 3 – Observe your child As you teach your child, using a variety of methods and activities, observe where they are 1. Show more interest in the activity 2. Be more active while doing an activity 3.
Pay more attention or focus on activity 4. They are more cooperative in the activity being done. This is important so that we can determine the learning style of our children. You can create a checklist so you can determine their level of interest.
Step 4. Assessment or quiz Take a simple and short quiz. This is important if they remember or have learned something other than their happy experience. Sometimes, they are just really happy with what they are doing because they think you are just playing.
But that is not enough if they do not remember or learn much. Perhaps we think their interest is very high. For example your activity is a game. Who doesn’t like the game? Especially with the child isn’t it? So quiz or assessment is still important.
This is important so that we can measure whether they really learned or not. In case they get low on the quiz, compared to the height of their interest. Where is the defect? Probably in the quiz itself.
Is the test you used appropriate? or maybe it’s just that it’s really hard. But let us also avoid the very easy. Because they are likely to get high. How should it be? In the quiz there should be different levels of difficulties.
From easy to difficult. And this topic we will make a video. How to make a quiz. Step 5. Focus on the child’s strength If you determine where he or she learns the most, or what kind of learner he or she is, and what activity he or she learns the most, give him or her more attention.
This may be the more frequent activity to do to teach our children more. Bonus time: Because you are still here I have a Tip for you. Be Holistic What is the meaning of holistic? We do not just focus our teaching on one style because is our child better at that style? No, Let them experience different ways of learning.
In our lives, we don’t just stay in our comfort zone, do we? So let us also teach them how to deal with challenges and difficult situations. Because that is real life. If you have reached the part of this video, please comment below on “real life”.
